Media Installation

Twisted Pair
Networking and Information Security will wire twisted pair connections based on Category 5e wire to distribution equipment within a department following CIS wiring standards.  This distribution equipment must be approved by NIS.  The department will be responsible for purchasing the needed distribution equipment and maintaining it. If the equipment fails, it is the department's responsibility to have it repaired. The department must agree that all physical maintenance and configuration of the wiring will be performed by NIS. 

Fiber Optic
NIS will install multimode fiber optic connections to  desktops within a department following CIS fiber standards. The department will be responsible for purchasing the needed distribution equipment and maintaining it. If the equipment fails, it is the department's responsibility to have it repaired. The department must agree that all physical maintenance and configuration of the fiber optics will be performed by NIS. The cost per connection includes one 3 meter ST/ST jumper. 

Installation Rates
See CIS Rates for media installation rates. Costs to departments reflect cabling supplies and labor associated with installations. NIS will maintain the wiring at no cost, but equipment problem diagnosis will be billed on the standard hourly basis.
